The 6 villages of Wang Chau, Yuen Long, are jointly holding a Tai Ping Ching Chiu, an extravagant spiritual purification festival, on January 25-28, 2021. More than 10 Chinese traditional flower billboards were erected inside and outside the villages as Taoist priests set up altars to chant and pray for the villagers.

The last Tai Ping Ching Chiu at Wang Chau was held in 2012 and it is held once every 8 years. The main purpose is to pray for blessings and avoid disasters, to benefit the Yin and Yang, to pray to the gods, and to transcend the underworld. Among them, the grand ceremonies are to make offerings to and later burn the Ghost King.

Owing to the pandemic, the celebration this year was low-key with a smaller crowd. The Chinese opera was replaced by puppet shows.

The 6 villages of Wang Chau include Tung Tau Wai (Walled Village), Chung Sum Wai, Lam Uk Tsuen (Village), Yeung Uk Tsuen, Fook Hing Tsuen and Sai Tau Wai.
