The Pang clan at Fanling Wai (walled village) held a Tai Ping Ching Chiu, an extravagant spiritual purification festival, from December 28, 2020 to January 2, 2021. More than 10 Chinese traditional flower billboards were erected inside and outside the village.
The last Tai Ping Ching Chiu at Fanling Wai was held in 2010 and it is held every 10 years. The main purpose is to pray for blessings and avoid disasters, to benefit the Yin and Yang, to pray to the gods, and to transcend the underworld. Among them, the grand ceremonies are to make offerings to and later burn the Ghost King.
This year, due to the pandemic, the crowd was less, unlike the past. The Chinese opera and the villagers’ “pun choi” (feasting food in a basin) banquet were canceled, but the celebrations were still very well attended.
