When the Riga Central Market was first unveiled in 1930 it was the largest and most technologically advanced market in Europe. Equipped with modern refrigeration units, cargo lifts and underground passageways and warehouses, the five pavilions were an engineering marvel.

Housed in a series of WWI Zeppelin hangars and spilling outdoors as well, the market is an essential Riga experience, providing bountiful opportunities both for people-watching and to stock up for a picnic lunch.

Riga is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
