北京在5月22日在全國人民代表大會年度會議上宣布，計劃推動全面的香港國家安全法，相關人士批評，此舉將有效終止香港的自治和一國兩制。
下午1時，逾萬人聚集在銅鑼灣崇光百貨公司外，重啟大型抗爭活動。計劃了兩條遊行路線。路線甲：從崇光到修頓球場，路線乙：從修頓球場到崇光。許多人舉起「香港獨立」旗幟。
數百名全副裝備持槍防暴警察到場中斷遊行。曾舉起藍色和黑色警告旗，並發射了至少8發催淚彈。抗爭者四散但在現場徘徊。
[We Are Back] Over 10,000 March Against National Security Laws Disrupted by Tear Gas
Beijing announced plans to push through sweeping national security laws for Hong Kong at its annual session of National People’s Congress (NPC) on 22 May, in a move that critics say will effectively end the territory’s autonomy and the “One Country, Two Systems.”
At 1 pm, tens of thousands gathered outside Sogo department store in Causeway Bay to restart the massive protests. Two march routes are planned. Route A: from Sogo to Southorn Playground and Route B: from Southorn Playground to Sogo. Many “Hong Kong Independence” flags were raised.
Hundreds of riot police in full gear and disrupt the march. Blue and black warning flags were raised and at least 8 rounds of tear gas were fired. Protesters dispersed but lingererd on site.
