Li Peng, the former Chinese premier whom human rights groups dubbed the “butcher of Beijing” for his role in the deadly 1989 crackdown on peaceful demonstrators in Tiananmen Square, died July 22. He was 90.
Chinese CommunistParty (CCP) described Li as taking “decisive measures to stop the unrest, quell the counterrevolutionary riots” during June 4. Li Peng’s butchering responsibility goes down in history, waiting for people’s ultimate judgment.
The Alliance for Democracy in China said of Li Peng, the last person of the “Deng (Xiaoping) Li (Peng) Yang (Shangkun) Group” who advocated or endorsed the use of force to suppress the student movement. The CCP should reveal the truth of the June 4th as soon as possible and redress June 4, and investigate the responsibility of the massacre.
Wang Dan, who ranked first in 21 student wanted after June 4, said: “Li Peng is the executor and executioner of the June 4 massacre, and has been nailed to history’s pillar of shame.”
After the death of Li Peng, the mainland media handled it in a low-key manner. The two major newspapers in the United States, the New York Times and the Washington Post, reported this prominently, both calling Li Peng “Beijing Butcher.”
The League of Social Democrats went to the China Liaison Office at noon today and celebrated the death of the butcher Li Peng.
